Physio Beverley: What to Expect from a Physio Assessment

Our physiotherapists will need to conduct an in-depth assessment to provide the best care for you and your injury. This will include assessing your pain levels and what has caused the damage.

Using a simulated telehealth environment, this study determined the validity of inter and intra-rater reliability of performing a physical examination via telehealth compared to F2F. The results showed a moderate level of exact agreement and good levels of similar and intra-rater agreement for systems diagnosis, elbow range of motion, nerve tests and strength assessments. Assessment

The physiotherapist will observe your body posture and movement patterns during the physical assessment. They will consider your medical history, life events and 24-hour postures to understand the cause of your soft tissue weakness, tightness or pain. The physiotherapist will assess muscle tone (range of regular resting contractile activity) and determine whether you have hypertonus or hypotonus. Hypertonus is excessively elevated muscle tone, while hypotonus is abnormally reduced contractile activity.

Bev established her private clinic in 2016 to offer a nurturing environment and enough time within appointments for an accurate, thorough and comprehensive assessment and to listen and provide effective treatment and self-management strategies. Her experience in critical care and her close family members requiring daily physiotherapy has given her a person-centred approach to patient care.

Treatment

A full musculoskeletal assessment can help identify the problem’s source; for example, a symptom such as low back pain could be due to poor posture, which increases tension in the spine’s muscles and causes tissue fatigue. This can be addressed through manual therapy, such as a kneading or manipulation of the body’s soft tissues, and a tailored exercise program, which will also improve the strength of the core and retrain any bad habits.

Bev Ball Physio was started in 2016 to provide high-quality care and ensure appointments last long enough to enable a thorough, empathetic assessment and effective treatment in a nurturing environment. She has a wealth of clinical experience and is CSP registered. Home visits and community visits are available, as well as PD warrior-trained specialist exercise classes at the Avenue Pavilion, Petersfield.

Follow-up

During the follow-up visit, the physiotherapist will note any improvements and set goals for the next session. They will also provide advice and exercises to help you achieve your goals. For more information about the physio assessment Beverley, click here.
