The Saber Force Lightsaber Review

Star Wars fans know that a lightsaber is more than just a blade. Its hilt, focusing ring and blade emitter make up an entire weapon capable of cutting through almost anything.

Saber Force lightsaberThe Saber Force lightsaber comes with special effects that no competitor can match. These include progressive ignition (the blade’s light extends progressively up the handle), blaster deflects marks (a few spots on edge glow white to simulate batting away projectiles) and wall-cutting effects.

Product Description

It is one of the better options if you want a high-quality, movie-accurate lightsaber that looks like your favourite Jedi and Sith wielded in battle. It costs a little more than some of the other models we’ve reviewed, but it’s also much more durable and comes with more features than most. It’s not just a prop that you can swing around for a quick duel — it’s a modular weapon with movie-accurate sound and light effects.

The blade is a clear poly-carbonate tube that stretches almost to the pommel. This design allows the LED colour to appear consistent across the entire edge rather than just a few inches above the hilt. Its diameter is just over 1″, so it’s thick enough to withstand heavy sparring (and even fierce duels with wooden wasters or bokken). The handle is constructed from a resin and aircraft aluminium mix, and it comes in a few different colours depending on the model you choose.

There are a few features that set this lightsaber apart from others, including progressive ignition (the light of the blade extends progressively further down as you hold down a button), blaster deflection effects (part of the blade will flash white when you press a second button as if it’s deflecting a blaster bolt), wall-cutting effects (the top part of the blade will glow in rainbow colours as you push down a third button, simulating cutting through a door or wall) and the ability to change the hilt colour to match your costume.

You can also use the blade with other models from the Saber Force lightsaber Bladebuilders range, which gives you a spectrum of customisation options and more features than most other modular lightsabers on the market. Of course, it’s still a bit pricey for a kids’ toy, and those small parts can easily get lost if it’s not looked after properly, but it’s far more advanced than the pop-up toys or solid blades you’ll find elsewhere on the market.

Product Features

The lightsaber is the most iconic weapon in the Star Wars universe. We’ve seen Obi-Wan Kenobi swing it around in the original 1977 movie, Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars TV series. He even kicked a smug Darth Maul down a reactor shaft in The Phantom Menace.

The sabers are made of a handle, blade and hilt, with the crystal in the hilt reflecting the Jedi’s different beliefs. For example, those who followed the light side used Kyber crystals, while those on the dark side used Ebon crystals. The different colours were also meant to represent the two sides of the Force, with the Jedi’s sabers symbolising the light and the Sith’s sabers representing the darkness.

While there’s a lot of variety regarding Saber Force lightsaber, most models have similar features. They’re typically base lit with standard RGB (red, green and blue) LEDs on the hilt and a blade that combines the same lights. In addition, some use Neopixel technology that extends a line of LED lights on the edge, providing more colours and functions.

Another common feature is sound effects that play when you activate the blade or hit something with it. These can be simple hums and crackles or more dramatic ones like the ones created when you clash with other sabers or objects. You can also find swords that can change blade colour or hilt design to match your favourite character.

Some sabers also come with a built-in remote that lets you control the device from your smartphone. The remote has a handful of buttons to cycle through the various features. Some include progressive ignition (where the light travels up the blade progressively), blaster deflection, wall-cutting and duelling.

You can connect a saber to your belt with a plastic clip. This way, you can use it for actual swordplay and battles instead of just standing in front of a backdrop or prop. However, these sabers require three AA batteries, which aren’t included in the package. Luckily, the battery life is long enough that you’ll only need to replace them every few years.
